The Big Issue

In 2017, I was fortunate enough to work with The Big Issue, on a corporate day, photographing both some of their vendors and sponsors. The programme was to show their sponsors, the battles that some of the vendors come across on their day to day selling of the magazine. At the end of the day, I even had a go at selling the magazine myself.

The purpose of this project, is to break the stigma around homelessness, and The Big Issue itself. A lot of people are not aware, that each vendor has to purchase the magazines themselves, they buy them for £1.50 and sell them on for £3.00, the money they make can then go towards re-purchasing more magazines.

The vital message that everybody took away with them on the day, is how hard it is to stand there, whilst people ignore you, or even worse, spit on you. So please, next time you see someone selling a Big Issue magazine, take the time to smile, make a conversation, or better yet, purchase a magazine.
